1.1 MW ЭТС-W1375 (Waukesha) containerized power plant is designed to operate reliably on low-quality associated petroleum gas and can accommodate sharply variable loads, such as those encountered during drilling operations. Despite its compact size, it is designed for easy maintenance.
ЭТС-W1375 containerized power plant is built around Waukesha VHP 7044GSI S4 gas genset. ЭТС-W1375 containerized power station serves to generate electricity with a frequency of 50 Hz from gaseous fuel. The fuel options for ЭТС-W1375 power plant include natural gas, associated petroleum gas, biogas, landfill gas, wastewater gas, mine methane, generator gas (synthesis gas), among others. The minimum methane index of the fuel gas (according to Waukesha WKI method) should be 30. ЭТС-W1375 model currently serves as the cornerstone of the ETS-Astana’s own fleet of gas reciprocating power plants.
Features of the new GRPP
The ЭТС-W1375 facilitates a load increase of up to 70% in the initial step due to the utilization of RICH BURN technology which is comparable to the acceleration of diesel generator sets. This is precisely the reason for their widespread use in power supply for drilling operations. An evaluation of the performance of ЭТС-W1375 in such projects demonstrates that this gas reciprocating power plant is 30% more economically advantageous compared to diesel generator sets. Moreover, even APG from the annulus of a well can be used as fuel. ЭТС-W1375 GRPP is currently recommended by major oil companies for powering drilling operations, including those utilizing annular gas.
Air coolers (ACs) are typically situated on the roof of the gas reciprocating power plant module. During transportation, it may be necessary to dismantle them. In ЭТС-W1375, the standard position of the air cooler is on the container frame. This setup allows the entire cooling system of the gas reciprocating power plant to be assembled and tested in a factory environment and subsequently delivered to the site of operation without requiring dismantling. According to estimates by ETS-Astana, this design solution reduces the time required to convert a power plant from a transportation condition to an operational state by at least 3-5 days. Experience shows that ЭТС-W1375 model can be operational within 5-7 days after arriving at the operation site. Furthermore, this design solution notably decreases the weight of the final product while maintaining its durability.
Some more features of ЭТС-W1375:
- Standard transformer 0.4/6.3/10.5 kV. The transformer voltage is adjusted through bolted connections by selecting the position of the jumpers.
- The design allows for flexible modification according to customer requirements. For instance, the placement of gland boards for external power and control cable connections can be customized according to the customer’s preferences, and the aerosol fire extinguishing system can be substituted with a gas-based one.
- The gas reciprocating power plant was designed to fit within the transportation dimensions of a 40-foot ISO container (High Cube), enabling its delivery along roads of almost all categories in a short time.
- The gas reciprocating power plant has low requirements for foundations, as special elements integrated into its frame and the generator set frame enable the module to be installed even on unstable soils using a slab foundation.
- Despite its compact dimensions, the GRPP remains easy to use, facilitated by strategically positioned single and double-leaf doors on the sides of the container, ensuring convenient access to GRU’s main components. In adverse weather conditions, the double-leaf door openings can be readily outfitted with a service platform featuring shelter for added convenience. It is included in the package.
- The ЭТС-W1375 is outfitted with the Prometheus control and monitoring system, an in-house development by ETS-Astana leveraging the ComAp component base.
After sales service
All activities from the equipment’s release from the factory until the gas reciprocating power plant is commissioned, as well as subsequent maintenance and repair tasks, are conducted by certified ETS-Astana service engineers without the involvement of foreign specialists. This encompasses:
- Supervised installation of gas reciprocating power plant;
- Commissioning works;
- Diagnostics, maintenance and repairs;
- Setting up and modernizing the control system;
- Connection to MyPlant cloud platform;
- Restoration of cylinder head and connecting rods;
- Consulting and training customer personnel on fundamental gas engine maintenance practices.
ETS-Astana’s experience demonstrates that localizing services increases equipment readiness for operation from 0.95 to 0.98, resulting in an increase in average annual operating time of the gas reciprocating power plant from 8300 to 8600 operating hours.
ЭТС-W1375 model is a well-established solution, validated by extensive operational experience, and is adaptable to various tasks ranging from powering drilling operations to integration into the energy infrastructure of manufacturing companies, mining and processing plants, and agricultural enterprises.
